Franz Fjödor

Franz Fjödor is the pseudonym of Dutch writer and musician Wouter Jaspers (Deurne, 1986). As Franz Fjödor, Jaspers flirts with The Dark; with self-made instruments he creates pieces of soundart in between droning soundscapes, depressed noise and dark folk. His style varies to his mood: from psycho chants to punk screams, from guitar oriented music to field recordings. Over the last year, Wouter played over 140 shows all over Europe, he toured in Russia and released several records on his label Vatican Analog from Tilburg, Netherlands. Besides this he has been active working on his new book, to be published in the fall of 2008. In october he will do a small worldtour through Europe and The United States together with Staplerfahrer. Next year he' ll tour Japan.

Besides his Franz Fjödor project Jaspers is also part of Meldy Peaches and 4daladiez, both featured projects on Vatican Analog. He also released cd's/tapes and several tracks on TIBproductions (NO), Kourlyk Records (BE), Black Syndicate (NL), Goldsoundz (NO), Dirty Demos (UK), Zeromoon (US) and Emerson, Lake and Headache (RU).

Sten Ove Toft

Sten Ove Toft is one of the leading artists in Norway's noise scene. Apart from being an active solo artist, Toft has also validated himself through projects like Ryfylke, Röyskatt, Waffelpung and others. He's also worked with Lasse Marhaug, Anders Hana, Stian Westerhus, Serena Maneesh and The Low Frequency In Stereo. At the end of 2007 Toft released his solo album "Lit De Parade" on his own label Roggbif Records. Ballade.no said it was a perfect cross between aforementioned Lasse Marhaug´s infernal noise and Helge Sten a.k.a. Deathprod´s dark, blurry soundscapes. This is reflected in Toft's performances, which he's had a lot of lately. In 2007 alone he toured the States for a month, the European continent for a month and Great Britain for two weeks. In total, he's performed over 200 concerts and has participated in over 50 releases, on labels all over the world.

Christian Felber

Bernhard Gal

The Austrian artist, composer and musicologist Bernhard Gal has become internationally known as one of the most prolific sound artists of a younger generation. During the past ten years Gal has created around 50 sound installations and media art projects, combining sound, light, objects, spatial concepts and video projections into intense and often site-specific interdisciplinary art works. He also composes music for acoustic instruments and electro-acoustic music. As a (laptop) musician he has been performing live in around 150 concerts on four continents.

Born in Vienna, Austria in 1971, Gal began to nurture his interest in music and (sound) art around 1985. After studies at Vienna’s University of Music (Sound Engineering) and the University of Vienna (Musicology), and a year-long residency in New York City in 1997–98, he has focused on his compositional and artistic activities. He runs the record label Gromoga Records and is director of the Austrian art organization ‘sp ce’. Together with Ernst Reitermaier, he curates the Viennese Festival ‘Shut up and Listen!’. Currently, Gal lives as a freelance composer and artist in Vienna and Berlin where he also taught sound art at the University of Arts in 2006-07.

An important aspect of his work is the combination of music with other art forms, in solo projects as well as in collaborations, e.g. since 1997 with the Japanese architect Yumi Kori (‘audio-architectural installations’). As a (laptop) musician, Gal performs in solo concerts and has worked together with musicians such as Tung Chao-Ming, Kai Fagaschinski and Jennifer Walshe.

Gal's work has been presented in concerts, sound installations, exhibitions, and radio portraits in Europe, Asia, and the Americas. He has been invited to international music and art festivals (including Wien Modern Vienna; MaerzMusik Berlin; Donaueschinger Musiktage; Nuova Consonanza Rome; MATA Festival New York; Mutek Montreal; Musicacoustica Beijing; FILE Sao Paulo) and frequently gives lectures and workshops.

For his music and art projects Gal has received several awards, including the Karl Hofer Prize Berlin 2001, an Annual Grant from SKE-Fonds Vienna 2002, a composer fellowship from the DAAD Artists in Berlin Programme 2003, and the Austrian State Scholarship for Composition 2004. Bernhard Gal’s music has been made available on more than 25 audio publications. In 2005, the German publishing house Kehrer Verlag Heidelberg published the comprehensive catalogue book ‘Installations’, documenting Gal’s intermedia installations since 1999.

Austrian group Code Inconnu operate on the cusp of post-rock and electronica, favouring the latter on Spoil, Microbe, a hall of mirrors in which the instrumentalists and their sampled and treated doppelgangers do battle. Occasionally the complexity of the music, with its odd meters and shifting harmonies, leads to a suffocating density. The best moments here see them picking up the technological gauntlet thrown down by Tortoise's "Djed", something most post-rockers haven't thought even to try. "Sleepless Music" is one of the best things I've heard this year. Guitars billow like slowly advancing clouds of mustard gas over a slippery, cut-up 9/4 beat, before subsiding into a passage of beutiful eerie arpeggios, then erupting into a free noise coda complete with digital groans and splutters. In fact noise codas seem to be a speciality. "Fu" climaxes with a monstrous rising guitar figure strafed by Hecker-like squawks and squeals, and the final section of the superb "Seeds" lapses into a moody landscape of dark electronic harmonies and percussive blips and thuds. Spoil, Microbe is a bit too cluttered, as if the group are trying to cram all their tricks into each track, but that's an understandable lapse, when the tricks are as good as these. Code Inconnu just need to let it all breathe a little, and they could be world beaters.

Tim Blechmann & Seijiro Murayama

tim blechmann & seijiro murayama started their collaboration in june 2008, when performing their first concert at the offspace c17 in vienna. in summer 2008, they spent a week in paris, working on a cd.

playing together they create a reductionist, yet changing music, focussing on the mixture of music, environmental sounds, and silence.

Tim's music is focused on static noise textures, that are digitally generated and spacial projected in realtime. His pieces are very slow paced, having a low volume close to the background ambience. For live performances, his preferred lineup is the duo with another improvising musicians. After studying physics in Tuebingen and Stuttgart, he moved to Vienna in 2005, in order to study computer sciences, digital arts and electroacoustic music (with Wolfgang Musil).

Percussionist, Seijiro Murayama works in France since 1999 after almost 20 years of improvised music experiences. His artistic principal is especially to seek for the  plural-disciplinity between music and other disciplines of art: danse, video, paintings, photos, litterature etc. Also in the same pluri-disciplinary ways, he collaborates with many musicians, composers, and sound artists. For him, improvisation is always the major artistic concern. His approach is based on much attention to the space and the place, to the energy of the audience and  to the quality of silence in various manners, in short, to 'hearing'.

Ken Okami & Michael Fischer

Ken Okami, light volume control system, fluorescent lights, electricity noises
Michael Fischer, feedback/saxophone

Ken Okami arbeitet in Japan's Performance Szene an Licht/Noise Installationen.

produces various kinds of electronic music under different monikers since 1992. Always on the darker and heavier side of the sonic universe he creates droney, soundtrack-like long sound pieces that evoke connotations of dreams (some might say nightmares) and Sci-Fi narrations. After approx. 30 releases on such reputated labels as Mego, Staalplaat, Praxis, Feld, and his own labels dOc recordings, Atmosfear, and Loop he just finished his new album which will be out on portuguese Crónica Electronica label in september 2008.

Heifetz

Fuck you very much.

Dälek

Dälek (pronounced 'Die-a-leck') is an alternative hip hop duo from Newark, NJ. The group comprises MC Dälek (vocals) and the Oktopus (production). They have often toured with artists from radically different genres, such as Godflesh, Isis, Prince Paul, The Melvins, De La Soul, and Lovage.
Dälek's music is dark, noisy and atmospheric, equally inspired by industrial music like Einstürzende Neubauten, the layered noise of My Bloody Valentine and the dense sound collages of Public Enemy. Their sound is often constructed through sampling and a musical base atypical of most hip-hop, making it difficult for people to classify their sound. They have been described as trip-hop, glitch-hop, and metal- shoegaze-hip-hop, as well as criticized for their broad range of sound. (Wikipedia)

Unique blend of industrial strength hip-hop and avant rock...musically somewhere between El-P, Cannibal Ox, Public Enemy, Techno Animal, Swans, Anticon and My Bloody Valentine.
Darkness guaranteed!

Hexenbrutal

After raising first interest in 2005 the commission of Klubski Maraton took notice and Hexenbrutal played among other runners-up at the Koncertni Maraton 2006 in KUD France Prešeren.
Then in the next year they confirmed their unconventional musical concepts and added fresh ideas and a wider sonic spectrum. It basically still was a slow and intense musical affair, which evolves between drums, synthesizers, samplers and other electronic equipment and vocals. The contrast between meditative ambient passages and thundering assaults of controlled noise is liberating and surprises with its reversing co-effect, where the noise works ambient and the ambience hits your ears like a hammer.

Their non compromising musical position, which demands an increased effort at digesting the sound, also offers refreshing and liberating effects.

Ovo

OvO is a project involving music and life.
Stefania Pedretti (also singer of Allun and solo performer aka ?Alos) and Bruno Dorella (also performing in bands as Ronin and Bachi da Pietra, former drummer of Wolfango and Bugo and manager of Bar La Muerte Records), together in life as well, decided to create OvO in order to go on playing and travel together. Actually, OvO is first of all a tour band, a specific choice which made them moving throughout Europe and North America from 2001 until present, with stops in Mexico and Turkey, performing more than 500 concerts in 6 years.
Their first album “Assassine” (2001) and the second “Vae Victis” (2002) as well were produced by Bar La Muerte and could boast the contribution of guests and friends. After the splits with Rollerball and KK Null, OvO definitively became a duo and the change was marked by the issue of their third album “Cicatrici” (2004), a co-production of Bar La Muerte and Ebria Records. In 2006 the work “Miastenia” was released under the prominent American label Load Records, the crowning achievement of several tours in the States.
After more tours in 2007, in 2008 they released a remix cd on Blossoming Noise, and recorded their new album at Seizures Palace studio in Brooklyn. It will be out in September on Load records.
